What to do after a discharge? Procedure, refills, servicing

Your Density fog generator has just been triggered. The room is filled with white fog, the alarm has gone off, and the police may have been alerted. What should you do in the minutes, hours and days that follow? Many owners only ask themselves this question after the event. Here is the complete, step-by-step procedure.

The short answer: Do not enter the premises straight away; wait for the fog to clear, check for any damage with the police, then contact your installer again to have the system repaired.

Step 1: Do not enter the room until the mist has cleared

Density fog is non-toxic and certified as harmless to humans and animals. There is no health risk. However, visibility reduced to zero may create a risk of falling or moving about dangerously in a room where you are unaware of the exact conditions following a break-in.

The rule: Wait until the fog has cleared enough to allow for a minimum level of visibility. In practice, the Density fog dissipates naturally within 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of the room and the available ventilation. You can speed up this process by opening doors and windows from the outside, if possible, or by switching on the room’s mechanical ventilation system.

Step 2: Secure the premises with the police

If your system is connected to a remote monitoring centre, the police will normally have been alerted automatically. Please wait until they have arrived before entering the room. They will assess the damage, secure the area and draw up an incident report — a document that is essential for your insurance claim.

Do not touch anything before the report has been drawn up. Any alteration to the scene may complicate legal proceedings and reduce the amount of insurance compensation.

Step 3: Check that your products are free from residue or damage

The Density fog system is the only one on the market to have been awarded the FCMs certification authorising its use in the presence of foodstuffs. It leaves no residue, no build-up and no lingering odour on surfaces, furniture, fabrics or stored goods.

In practice: once the smoke has completely cleared, you can resume normal use of your premises without the need for any specific cleaning. There is no need to treat the walls, windows or products — unlike pyrotechnic smoke bombs, which leave marks and residue on all surfaces.

In summary: Density fog does not incur any additional cleaning or decontamination costs once it has been deployed. This is one of its major advantages over conventional smoke-generating systems.

Step 4: Check the charge level

After a discharge, some of the liquid refill has been used up. The Density refill is multi-purpose : depending on the model and the programmed firing time, it allows for between 3 and 12 shots before it runs out.

Your installer or INNOV SÉCURITÉ can check the remaining charge level remotely via the Density cloud (on models fitted with an IP card). If the charge level is low or if the battery is more than three years old, it must be replaced. To find out more about the remote communication via the Density cloud.

Step 5: Test the system before putting it back into service

Once the battery has been checked or replaced, your installer will carry out a full functional test. On models fitted with the IP board (from the Density 1500), this test can be carried out remotely via the Density cloud, without the need for a technician to visit the site.

This test covers:

  • The level of the fog fluid
  • The status of the backup battery
  • Connectivity with the alarm control centre
  • The correct operation of the trigger inputs (alarm, panic button, confirmation PIR)

Do not put your premises back into service without this approval.

What if it was triggered by accident?

An accidental activation (false alarm, accidental triggering) follows the same procedure for resetting the system. The only difference is that you do not need to wait for the police if you are certain of the cause of the activation.

Ventilation of the room, checking the refill level, testing the entire system. Contact INNOV SÉCURITÉ to report the incident and monitor the charging level.

Conclusion

Activating a Density fog generator involves a simple five-step procedure: ensure immediate safety (do not enter), wait for the police to arrive, check the products, check the refill, and carry out a test to resume normal operation. As the fog leaves no residue or deposits, no specific cleaning is required before resuming normal operations.
